Screening the documentary 'In the Service of Peace' in Doetinchem.

Schalkhaar, 6 april 2025

Watching the documentary In the Service of Peace is always a special experience.

For me, it is the combination of the screening and the discussions before or after that are especially powerful. You meet so many different people, each with their own story.
Every story is unique and valuable. It is also special because the stories are not always from Unifillers, but from Dutch people who come to the documentary with genuine interest because it is about Unifil missions and Lebanon.

It is also great to see that the documentary is being combined with other public events, such as recently in Doetinchem.
In the context of 80 years of liberation, a week was organised in which Doetinchem reflected on the mistaken bombings in the final years of the Second World War.

This event was organised in collaboration with the Veterans East Netherlands Foundation. They introduced the theme 'Freedom is not self-evident' that week.
We watched a film reconstruction that afternoon, 16 March, in Doetinchem. The reconstruction was carried out with a Dakota aeroplane.
We watched the film with interest and then joined a panel including Unifiller Cor Keijzer and retired general Mart de Kruijf. The conversation was fascinating, centring on the impact of missions and the commitment to peace.
This was followed by the screening for a full audience.
