Schalkhaar, October. 10, 2023
After the terrible news reports and then a consultation
with the Dutch Embassy in Beirut, we unfortunately had to inform last Sunday all 34 travelers for the two trips in the period of October 13 and 27 that both trips will be postponed.
The people of the first group that was to leave next Friday were all ready and had already pretty much packed their suitcases.
Naturally, everyone was very disappointed, but also full of understanding. Safety above all!
Due to the war between Hamas and Israel around the Gaza Strip and its impact on the area between the Litani River and the border with Israel, the situation on the ground is very uncertain, unpredictable and therefore dangerous.
This is also what the RIVM now says. Since today, the travel advisory has been adjusted and the color code for this area has been designated code red.
Our thoughts are with all the dear people and families we are privileged to meet every year and who always receive us as a group of veterans together with our loved ones very hospitably and with open arms and full of gratitude.
From the many app contacts we understand that they are having a hard time at the moment.
Let us hope that there will soon be a positive turn of events for all people throughout the region, regardless of background or religion.
Not through even more violence, but with equal negotiations.
Only real contact and good conversations ultimately lead to more understanding, respect and love for each other.
We experienced this ourselves 40 years ago.
Thanks to all our good social contacts and many glasses of shai with the locals, mutual respect is still great and we still know how to find and support each other.
